KUALA LUMPUR: Entrepreneur Development Minister Redzuan Yusof has questioned opposition claims that the 2019 Budget tabled today was plagiarised from the budget of the previous Barisan Nasional government, saying Pakatan Harapan’s version is more “focused and well defined”.
Redzuan agreed that there was not any “significant difference” from previous budgets, but said the new government had clearly stated its growth targets.
“In the first part of the speech, we have seen how there is an emphasis on improving the management of the budget,” Redzuan told FMT when met at the Parliament lobby after Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng tabled his budget speech.
As Lim ended his speech today, BN MPs were heard calling the budget as a “copy and paste” version of the previous government’s budget.
Redzuan said the bigger challenge in coming up with the national budget is in its management, adding that it was something the previous government had failed to do as proven by financial leakages.
“They may say we copied but how come there was so much leakage and the allocated money was not properly channelled?
“We are very targeted in terms of growth. We are very targeted to achieve the end result,” he said.
“The bottom line is management.”
Redzuan said he also welcomed allocations to boost entrepreneurship, which comes under his ministry.
Encouraging the entrepreneurial economy is one of the three major sectors focused by the budget.
Among others, some RM2 billion is allocated under the Business Loan Guarantee Scheme to help small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) to invest in automation and modernisation, with guarantees of up to 70%.
Some RM200 million is also allocated for the wholesale and retail industry, as well as for the purchase of business premises to be rented out to Bumiputera small and medium entrepreneurs.
