Johor MACC Arrest Five Entrepreneurs for False Claims of RM 400,000 – Nation

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested five local contractors for allegedly making false claims amounting to over RM400,000.

Initial investigations showed that suspects had done District and Industry Carnival Program in Segamat, Mersing, Muar, Kluang, Tangkak and Kulai

The suspects also reportedly filed false claims of 39, a value of more than RM400,000 for work done at the level of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The suspects, between the ages of 30 and 50, were arrested at Johor MACC's office around 10 pm on Monday, July 16th.

According to sources, investigations are still underway to detect and prove the involvement of any official behind the false claims.

The case is under investigation under Article 18 of the 2009 MACC Law, which provides for a fine of five times the amount or RM 10,000 or so and a term of imprisonment not exceeding 20 years on conviction.

Once contacted, Johor MACC's director, Datuk Azmi Alias, confirmed the arrests. The suspects would be brought to court on Tuesday morning to be removed to participate in the investigations.
