The health condition of former prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia has not been changed much, doctor said on Thursday.

Professor MA Jalil Chowdhury, head of the medical board formed to treat her at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, told New Age on Thursday that her condition is almost the same despite passing more than three weeks at the hospital.

‘She is suffering from chronic ailments and it will take time to recover,’ he said.

Jalil said rheumatoid arthritis coupled with diabetes is the main health problem of the former prime minister.

Deformity develops in her left hand her shoulder becomes frozen due to the rheumatoid arthritis, he said.

Jalil said ‘slight improvement’ was noticed in the hand and shoulder.

‘It will take time to recover,’ he added.

Khaleda was admitted at the BSMMU hospital on October 6, following a court order to admit her at the hospital for treatment, from Old Central Jail.

She is now in jail since February 8 in corruption cases, dubbed as ‘politically motivated’ by BNP.

On Tuesday, the jail term of ailing Khaleda Zia was increased from five to 10 years in Zia Orphanage Trust Case by the High Court Division.

Asked about the mental condition of Khaleda Zia after increasing her jail term, Jalil said Khaleda Zia conceals her mental condition before them.

‘She tries to be normal before us,’ he said.
