The League Management Company announced Monday an indefinite suspension of the Nigeria Professional Football League, which was to resume after the World Cup break on 18 July.
A letter informing the clubs of the decision awarded the suspension of the league to the prevailing adverse conditions in the football administration in the country.
The letter, signed by the Chief of Operations, Salihu Abubakar, and addressed to all 20 participating clubs reads in part: "Please be informed that league management The Company (LMC) has made the decision to postpone indefinitely the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) resumed.
"The decision is based on the current unfavorable circumstances in the football administration in the country as a result of which sponsors, partners and service providers have expressed there is a need to engage them more in this regard in order to mitigate any possible negative results. "In addition, the organization of NPFL matches in the current circumstances could cause irreversible damage to the league mark. "
The letter explained to the clubs that a major partner with whom the negotiation had been concluded and approved at the last annual general meeting. the LMC in Port Harcourt, in the state of Rivers, May 28, 2018, requested the suspension of the execution of the contract due to the current challenges in the national football administration.
