Man Utd news: Why Pablo Zabaleta feels SORRY for Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford

And ex-Manchester City star Pablo Zabaleta feels SORRY for the Red Devils forwards.

The 33-year-old has faced the two this season with West Ham and enjoyed a 3-1 victory over United at the London Stadium in late September.

While Manchester United have enjoyed a mini-resurgence of late with some inspired comebacks, they lost their first Premier League game on Sunday since the West Ham defeat.

City prevailed in the Manchester derby 3-1, and United struggled to create many clear-cut chances on goal.

Romelu Lukaku earned a penalty, converted by Martial, to give the away side hope in the second half as United halved the deficit.=

But Ilkay Gundogan’s goal with five minutes to go sealed the win for Zabelata’s old team.

And the West Ham defender can understand why Martial and Rashford are suffering given their roles in Mourinho’s set up.

Speaking on Sky Sports about United after City’s victory, Zabaleta said: “I think this is Mourinho’s philosophy. We’ve seen this at Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

“Of course, when you play City, who dominate possession, you’ll suffer”

“When a manager has to convince players to play in the way the manager wants to play, it’s simple. Some players will enjoy it more and others will enjoy it less.

“When you look at Martial, when you look at [Marcus] Rashford, they’re just always tracking full-backs rather than just attack and they just couldn’t in one-on-one situations.

“And I think if I’m in their position it must be hard not to be an attacking team and play in the final third and always tracking back full-backs.

“Of course, when you play City, who dominate possession, you’ll suffer, but when you play against other teams with less quality then maybe it’s different.

“We’re West Ham and we played Man Utd a few weeks ago and we felt this.

“I was making overlapping runs and Martial was just tracking me back and at some point he went ‘How old are you?’ – I felt like I can play another 10 years!

“He made me feel young but I felt bad for him because he was just tracking me back all the time.”

After the international break, United host struggling Crystal Palace on November 24 in a must-win Premier League clash.
