KUALA LUMPUR: Only four of the 28 Russian fighter jets belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) are capable of taking the skies, says Mohamad Sabu.
The Minister of Defense stated that the RMAF had 18 Russians. Sukhoi Su-30MKM and ten MiG-29 jet fighters
"Only four of the Sukhois are able to fly well," he said, adding that the other 14 are under repair.
In his response Mr. Sabu stated that the RMAF was unable to properly maintain the airworthiness of jet fighters.
He said that the Ministry of Defense had terminated the contractor hired by the former administration and was seeking to do so.
Mohamad Sabu also informed the House that the ten MiG-29 multipurpose aircraft entered service in 1995, while six Sukhoi Su-30MKM Air-Superiority Fighters were delivered in 2007 and the rest in 2009
More Early on, he said the ministry would stop granting honorary degrees to politicians to prevent them from "taking their rank" and abusing their position.
