Mercedes-Benz has officially confirmed that the new A-Class sedan will be introduced at the end of 2018, a model that differs from the A-Class sedan that was launched in China a few months ago.

The main difference concerns the wheelbase, with the version without the "L" sharing the same figure as the class A sedan – 2729 mm compared to 2,789 mm long wheelbase model. For reference, the A-Class L is 4,609 mm long, 1,796 mm wide and 1,460 mm high, 190 mm more and 20 mm longer than the standard sedan – the width is unchanged.

While the German automaker is not too keen to give the full list of dimensions (for now), it is ready to talk about the aerodynamics of the A-Class sedan. It prides itself that its new compact sedan has the lowest drag coefficient (Cd) of any production vehicle in the world at 0.22 and a frontal area of only 2.19 square meters.

Through computational loops, CAE simulations (computer-aided engineering) measurements in the wind tunnel at Sindelfingen, the company was able to optimize the car for better aerodynamics. The details include the tightness of the surrounding headlights as well as almost complete underbody panels (engine compartment, floor, rear axle parts and diffuser).

In other regions, the wheels and tires also underwent a fine aerodynamic adjustment, plus an optional two-piece shutter system behind the grille is also available. These features, Mercedes claims, help the car reach a drag zone of only 0.49 square meters.

Far from aeronautics, the company also adds that the class A sedan will share a lot in common with the sedan, including the engine lineup, safety and driver assistance systems , as well as the MBUX infotainment system (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). This is with the added benefit of more headroom than Mercedes claims to be at the top of its segment.

The A-Class sedan was developed in Sindelfingen, Germany, and will be built in Aguascalientes, Mexico and Rastatt, Germany. How many of you will prefer this to the hatchback?
