MIRI (Bernama) – Miri City Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang will not quit his post despite accusation that he is too focussed on politicking rather than fulfilling his core responsibilities to the city.

Yii, who was appointed in 2016 and is the third Miri City Mayor, said he would continue his duty as the mayor and would let the people of Miri City judge his performance instead of politicians.

“As the Mayor of Miri, I’ll continue to serve the people of Miri to the best of my ability, to ensure the economic development and prosperity of Miri under the prevalent general local, national and global environment,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The 62-year-old Yii was responding to criticism from DAP’s Pujut Assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon in a local daily yesterday over Yii’s constant political statements that focussed on highlighting issues related to the Federal government in Chinese dailies.

In addition, Yii said since he was Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Publicity and Information Secretary, he would continue to voice out issues that served the interests of the people of Sarawak.
