Mozambique airline dismissals after PM Rosário failed

The board of directors of LAM Airlines, Mozambique, was fired after the country's prime minister and other passengers were stranded when an aircraft ran out of fuel.

Carlos Agostinho do Rosário ended up using an air force aircraft for his official trip from the capital, Maputo, to Niassa Province to the north.

The public airline experienced a financial crisis.

Local media reports that "chaos" has lasted for three days.

The reports indicate that the fuel suppliers had requested that payment be made prior to delivery.

The airline described the incident as "embarrassing," but said it was working for flights to resume Friday after government intervention, the report said. BBC daily, José Tembe, in Maputo.

He apologized to his clients and urged travelers to call for information on their flights.

A six-year ban on the airline operating in the European Union was lifted last year. It was imposed because of what the EU said was a lack of supervision by the aviation authorities.
