KEPALA BATAS (Bernama): The world of discrimination against racial discrimination (ICERD).
Minister of the Prime Minister 's Department Datuk Seri Dr. Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the government was in a hurry to hold discussions and would look into the matter in detail.
"We will adhere to the advice of Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad that this matter should be discussed first," he said to reporters after officiating the Penang-level Kafa Interactive closing ceremony Tuesday (Nov 6).
Mujahid also voiced his concern over certain parts of the world that the ICERD issue incorrectly, among others, that if signed, the rights of the Malaysian would be removed.
"In addition to the rights of the Malays, the rights of the Rulers are also said to be abolished by the United States. with Parliament, "he said.
He also gave assurance that the ICERD agreement would not change the country's jurisdiction.
Mujahid said he would hold a roundtable discussion on Wednesday with the Islamic non-governmental organizations, and the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) to obtain their input and feedback on the matter.
"This may help the Prime Minister to obtain complete information, from the memorandum submitted by the Gerakan Pembela Ummah to the Parliament Building recently," he said.
Last Wednesday, Dr. Mahathir said that it would be a matter of mutual interest to have a multi-racial country issue.
In another development, Mujahid acknowledged that there were Bibles distributed among students in a high school in Bukit Mertajam, an issue that went viral on social media recently.
Mujahid said after checking with the state Islamic State Department, the State Education Department and the Bukit Mertajam MP, it had been confirmed that the incident did occur.
From the information obtained, the issue is whether or not it has been distributed among Muslims, Article 11 (4) clearly states that other religions are free to practice but should not be promoted.
"I would like to advise on the Constitution," he said.
He said those who distributed the Bibles were not of the Christian groups or parties but believed to be representatives of an NGO. – Bernama
