Last month, Renault unveiled its plans for a brand new C-segment crossover. Our first look at the upcoming SUV coupe was initially limited to a teaser at the front darkened, but now we have caught the tests on European roads.
Renault confirmed that it would unveil a new car in Moscow in the 2018 Auto Show in August – describing the model as a new crossover and a new "global model" for the French company . Online speculation has suggested that it would likely be derived from the Captur coupe, but the first shots suggest that it will in fact be based on the larger Kadjar.

Despite its billing, the Kadjar Coupe is unlikely to travel to Britain, Auto Express understands. The new crossover will be built at the Renault plant in Moscow and will be launched first in the Russian market, with other countries (such as China) to follow later.
Spying images show a form inspired by the success of cars like the BMW X4 and Mercedes GLC Coupe. The thin headlamps and the Kadjar style grille are easy to represent, while the raised ride height clearly distinguishes it from cars like the same-size Megane saloon. At the back, the Kadjar's license plate is still surmounted by bumpers, with a new high chest and a sharply tilted screen. It is impossible to distinguish further, although we expect the light signature of the standard SUV to be adapted to the sport coupe variant.
Elsewhere, we do not hide the heavy 4×4 body lining of the Kadjar coupe. Despite the camouflage, the flared sills and wheel arches are clearly visible, while the bulges on the door could indicate extra protection against off-road bumps and scratches in the car parks.
We were not given a look inside the new car, but it is likely that the Kadjar coupe-style will win the infotainment portrait screen of standard car and separate air conditioning controls. Since it is a car designed for the Russian market, there is a chance that it wins a cheaper and harder interior with harder plastics and rougher materials. As such, changes would be made if the car were sold in Europe and the UK.
Described as a "demonstration car", the vehicle that will be revealed in Moscow will not be the finished production model, although it will be an extremely close look.
