We finally have more details of the second Dota 2 major in the DPC season 2018-19. PGL will play host to yet another DPC event in the form of the PGL Bucharest 2019. The tournament will take place from 9-13 January 2019.

There will be online qualifiers to decide the teams that secure a place at the Minor. The online qualifiers will take place in December 2018. PGL Bucharest has been a staple in the Dota 2 esports scene for multiple years. While the 2016 edition saw the prize pool hover around $300,000 it was a Major last year [ with a prize pool of $1,000,000].

Here are the number of teams that will qualify for the Dota 2 Minor across the several regions:

  • North America – 1
  • South America – 1
  • CIS Region – 1
  • South East Asia – 1
  • Europe – 2
  • China – 2

Europe and China get two qualifier slots each. The two regions have consistently produced the top teams in Dota 2.

The Minor winner gets 120 DPC points but more importantly will get a direct invite to the accompanying Major. Valve recently made changes to the distribution of DPC points. This allows for viewers, analysts and players to have a clear distinction between minors and majors. The biggest complaint about most of the DPC 17-18 season was the inability to distinguish between the Majors and Minors.

The first Dota 2 Minor is Dreamleague Season 10. It will be followed by the Kuala Lumpur Major. While we wait for patch 7.20, ESL One Hamburg is currently live on Facebook. You can find more information about the PGL Bucharest Minor on their official website.
