PETALING JAYA: It's official. Rafizi Ramli of PKR will contest the position of vice president in the next elections of the party in August.
"Yes, I confirm I'm going to run," he told The Star on Thursday, July 26 in a text message.
That would mean that Rafizi will fight against the current vice president of the party Datuk Seri Mohamed Ali Azmin when he decides to defend his position in the next party elections.
However, Rafizi remains unmoved on the prospect of crossing iron with the former Selangor Mentri Besar, as he considered it a "celebration of democracy."
"It's a healthy competition within the family.PKR's culture is very different from the other parties, so democratic challenges will always be good for the party," he added.
Speculation is prevalent that Azmin apprehends the position of President PKR, fueling the possibilities of an imminent split between two parties. camps in the party – one barred by Anwar and another by Azmin.
PKR's advisor, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, expressed his intention to challenge the president's post on July 15, saying that it was a promise he had made to Malaysians more than 20 years ago.

Azmin had said that he is still undecided as to whether he should defend the position of his deputy president or stand for the presidency.
On July 18, PKR Wanita's leader, Zouraida Kamaruddin, urged the party not to prevent members from running for president.
