‘Ronaldo is an unbelievable player, but he doesn’t help us now’

Toni Kroos says life at Real Madrid has obivously changed following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure while adding that the team will show it can succeed without the Portuguese star.

Ronaldo’s summer move to Juventus came into focus once again this week when Real Madrid midfielder Isco stated that players at the club weren’t crying over a player that didn’t want to be there.

The Portuguese responded shortly after, saying that he was not focused on the “crisis of others”.

Following Real Madrid’s win over Viktoria Plzen, a match that snapped the club’s five-match winless and scoreless streak, it was Kroos’ turn to weigh in

“Of course it’s changed a little bit,” the German told reporters after the Plzen game, “but I think this is what the club wanted with this decision.

“We started well into the season and had games where we scored three or four goals and nobody was missing him (Ronaldo).

“It makes no sense to speak about players that aren’t here. He’s an unbelievable player, maybe one of the most important in history. That’s nothing that helps us now.

“We have to do this without him, that’s the only way, and we’ve showed we can do it. Of course we missed some goals in the last games and today we could have easily won 4-1, 5-1 or 5-2.

“At the moment it’s a little bit difficult for us to score, but the only way to improve is to continue working and the ball will go in.”

Real Madrid currently sit seventh in La Liga following the recent run of poor results, four points behind league-leaders Barcelona.

The two Spanish sides are set to collide this weekend as Real Madrid face Barca for the first Clasico of the campaign.
