Mrs Jones wore an orange prison suits when she appeared in court , charged with murdering her husband John, 63, on Tuesday October 30.

The former insurance clerk from Somerset has been charged of murdering her husband, a former chief fire officer, between 1am and 3am on October 18.

The killing happened at their home, which overlooks paddy fields in the quiet village of Langkawi in Malaysia.

Her lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo said: “My client is okay and doing quite well given the circumstances.

“It is very overwhelming for her at the moment.”

Mrs Jones has claimed she forced a knife into the chest of her husband after he punched her in the face and kicked her in the stomach following a night of drinking.

When neighbours tried to help him, John’s dying words were: “Stay away. You stabbed me, you stabbed me.”

The island’s police chief Superintendent Mohamed Iqbal has said there is no evidence to support Samantha’s claim she was attacked first.

He said: “There were no injuries to Samantha at all.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British man following his death in Malaysia, and are in contact with the Malaysian authorities.
