While rumors of a Samsung smart speaker incorporating the company's Bixby digital assistant are not new, the Wall Street Journal reports that such a device could be launched this summer , next to the new smartphone Galaxy Note 9 of the company.
According to a report on the US newspaper's website, Samsung could launch its smart speaker in the second half of 2018.
The device will apparently be positioned as an alternative to Apple's HomePod. It is presented as a quality musical loudspeaker with a "bowling form", incorporating intelligent functions and an intelligent voice assistant, in the form of Bixby. The price is expected to hover around US $ 300 (RM1220). The Apple HomePod costs 349 US $ (1,419 RM).
Although Samsung can compete with Apple and other competitors in audio hardware, the same could be true for virtual assistants. Currently, Bixby's functions seem very limited compared to major competitors, especially Google's assistant and Alexa's Amazon.
Still, an upgraded version of Samsung's digital assistant is expected to land with the Galaxy Note 9, capable of, for example, recognizing multiple users by their voices. The updated wizard also promises faster, more accurate and more contextual responses.
Samsung launched Bixby early 2017, promising optimized user experiences through an intelligent interface and a virtual assistant based on artificial intelligence able to provide suggestions and recommendations tailored. In addition to equipping its smartphones, the company aims to bring this technology to other smart devices, such as TVs, refrigerators, and so on.
All eyes will be turned to the Samsung event on August 9, 2018 to find out if the company will indeed unveil the rumored smart speaker alongside the new Galaxy Note 9 smartphone. – AFP Relaxnews [19659008]
