KUALA LUMPUR: The defamation suit filed by Sungai Buloh MP R Sivarasa against Umno treasurer Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is expected to be resolved amicably with the parties involved given until next week to settle the case.

Lawyer Latheefa Koya, representing Sivarasa, said the High Court had set Nov 9 for further management of the case, to be informed on the status of the settlement.

“We are now in the process of preparing the terms of the settlement,” she told reporters after case management in the chambers of judicial commissioner Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh today.

Tengku Adnan’s lawyer, S Satharuban, was also present.

Sivarasa filed the suit against Tengku Adnan on June 1 last year over allegedly defamatory remarks made by the Putrajaya MP in his speech at Masjid Jamek Alam Shah in Cheras.

In his statement of claim, Sivarasa who was Subang MP at the time, said the remarks implied that he had intended to use the mosque for political purposes and had not given it due respect.

The remarks were published by both the print and electronic media.

The plaintiff also claimed that Tengku Adnan knew of his statement on May 31, 2017, in which he denied making political talks at an event at Masjid An-Nur in Kampung Melayu Subang on May 24, 2017.

Sivarasa had sought general and aggravated damages, interest and costs as well as an injunction order to prevent Tengku Adnan from repeating the defamatory words against him.
