Owning an iPhone from Apple comes with its own set of restrictions. We are not talking about the iOS here, but the special cable that iPhones use to charge or connect to the PC.
When almost every OEM uses microUSB or USB Type-C to charge, Apple opts for the Lightning connector, which is specifically designed to connect iOS devices. But it seems that the exclusivity should soon end.
If we believe the latest report and the images disclosed, the next Apple iPhone could have a USB Type-C charger for upcoming iPhones this year. The Chinese report shows pictures of an Apple 18W PD charging adapter, which has a USB-C connection on it.
There is no sign of the cable and the connector on the other end of the charger is not clear. But it is natural to expect that the USB-C on both sides is similar to the Google Pixel 2 series charger.
Type-C, Apple will put an end to the difficulty of finding an iPhone charger in a world dominated by Android. As the USB Type-C gains ground, it can be expected that most phones will make it a standard port.
Having a USB-C port has its own advantages. This allows fast charging and the cable can be inserted back and forth without having to search for the correct order.
Apple will also benefit from such a change as its MacBook Pro owners only have one USB Type-C port. This will make it easier and easier for MacBook owners to connect their iPhone using their charging cable instead of wearing a special connector.
There is no confirmation yet of the replacement USB-C Lightning connector this year. These rumors are based on leaked images of what appears to be a prototype adapter and there is no way to verify the authenticity of the same.
Since the official launch of the 2018 iPhones is only in a few months, we should not wait indefinitely to find out if this new rumor is true.
