Spotify or YouTube Music: Which streaming app is right for you?

[ad_1]

It's not easy to choose the best music streaming service. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages and it is precisely on these aspects that I want to focus by comparing YouTube Music and Spotify. Both services have a web player, but in this comparison, we will focus on the functionality of applications for smartphones and tablets.

Do the pieces seduce you?

The fundamental aspect of any self-respecting music delivery service is … music of course! Music streaming services can be inexpensive, they can have a perfect application and a lot of unique features, but without good music, they will have no future.

Regarding music content, artists and albums, Spotify and YouTube Music have huge catalogs, so it will be hard not to find something nice to listen to on both platforms . But the advantage of YouTube Music, at least in this respect, is the exclusive content such as concerts, live performance recordings and remixes that are not available on any platform in the world. Yes, Spotify also offers events and concerts, but the number of exclusives is not comparable to the sheer amount of user content on YouTube.

Getting lost in the system is virtually impossible

Google manages to implement the search system in a more efficient way than Spotify. On YouTube Music, you can filter the results by song, album, artist and playlist directly by pressing the dedicated buttons in the search bar. Spotify presents the results in these same categories, but it's not impossible to filter them. You have to scroll through the list and browse the different contents presented in the groups.

What I like most about Spotify compared to its Google counterpart, is the presence of custom playlists according to mood, topics, weather, movies, TV Shows And so on. Spotify's themed playlists collection is currently superior to playlists on YouTube Music. The Google service generates user playlists, but I can not say that these are better than playlists created by Spotify users.

Both services have a function called Radio. You can start listening to a radio from an artist, an album or a song and YouTube Music and Spotify create playlists with different artists without getting too far from the original theme .

In the same way, both streaming services have a page dedicated to the discovery of new content. Spotify calls it the navigation bar, while YouTube Music calls it the hotlist. At the top, Spotify has a horizontal list of playlists that it considers appropriate at the moment. There is also a vertical list of topics, genres or moods. The hotlist is a collection of trendy albums or tracks from around the world. These are two different ways of presenting new and equally valid content, the preference of one with respect to the other is purely subjective.

Different limitations at different prices

YouTube becomes Premium, not just for music

at YouTube Music Premium for $ 9.99 per month. This package gives you access to all the music you need without advertising, which is downloadable offline and playable in the background (the music will not stop if you change apps or turn off the music. screen of your smartphone). When using this type of premium account, you can also choose to display the video of the chosen song (if available) or just the classic cover of the album.

There is a free unlimited version (simply called YouTube Music) that allows you to listen to any song you want. You will still have to deal with the advertising and you will not have access to the background, making the application virtually useless, since you will have to keep the screen of your smartphone for the duration of your application. The package I would recommend calls YouTube Premium (without the name Music) priced at $ 11.99 a month. For just $ 2 more per month (☕☕), you can access all the features of YouTube Music Premium, but you'll also delete YouTube's classic ads, and you'll be able to play videos in the background and download them. so you can see them offline. This is not bad at all, and when you use the YouTube application on Android Oreo or later, you can also use the Picture in Picture mode.

Spotify is the king of free services

Spotify is much more useful than the free version of its YouTube counterpart. You can play music in the background and you will only be interrupted by commercials from time to time. On Spotify Mobile, you are stuck in random mode and have only a small number of hops per hour (you can play whatever you want on the PC application)

Are there too many negative aspects? It depends on you! You can use this service for free and have your own playlists, those generated by Spotify and its users. And the limitation of not being able to choose specific songs is not so bad. Do not tell me you have never used random play! I only use that!

Spotify Premium, priced at $ 9.99 per month (without the special promotions that the company often offers), gives you the ability to listen to any song and allows you to download it for offline listening

There is no answer to all

If you are looking for a free service and are ready to survive advertising, there is no doubt that Spotify offers a product more attractive. For me, it's a problem that I can not turn off the screen of my smartphone using YouTube Music.

It's a different story if you're looking for a premium service. This gives you the advantage of being able to get rid of advertising for just $ 2 more even when you are on classic YouTube. This is a significant bonus and will make people believe in Google's video streaming service.

Both streaming platforms are very good and have various advantages and disadvantages.

This does not mean that Spotify Premium users must immediately unsubscribe to switch to the new service. Spotify is one of the most complete platforms of all time, and if you focus primarily on music, this service should be more suitable. But if your interest is in audiovisual content, Spotify has no hope.

Do you use any of the two services? Do you prefer Free or Premium? How do you like it? Let us know in the comments!
