South African helmsman Eben Etzebeth could recover from injury in time to face France this weekend, head coach Rassie Erasmus said Monday.
Etzebeth left the field during the 12-11 defeat of the Springboks against England on Saturday, due to an ankle injury.
Erasmus had initially declared that the talented 27-year-old would miss the French match and could be absent for the rest of the tour.
"The injury is not as bad as we originally thought and we will give Eben time to prove his form until Tuesday," said Erasmus, who is due to announce the formation of the squad on Thursday.
The Springboks were reinforced by the arrival of Faf de Klerk, Willie le Roux, Cheslin Kolbe, Franco Mostert, Francois Louw and Vincent Koch in the French capital.
European-based players missed the defeat against England last Saturday, as the game was played in front of World Rugby's official international window.
"He (de Klerk) is more experienced than many of the young players we brought in," said Erasmus.
"It's an important player, you can not buy experience," he added.
Erasmus also called for stability in the arbitration decisions after Angus Gardner chose not to penalize the Englishman Owen Farrell on Saturday following a controversial tackle on Andre Esterhuizen at the time. that the clock had already turned red.
Farrell seemed to be leading with his shoulder during his contact with Esterhuizen in the 82nd minute of the match.
World Rugby's laws state that dangerous play includes, but is not limited to, hitting with a part of the shoulder and is sanctioned by a penalty.
"I think you have to be consistent every game," he said.
"If it suits you, you can do it, otherwise, do not do it.
"You can not change the decision, you have to live with it."
After the French match, the Springboks will face Scotland on November 17th and Wales on November 24th.
