Syed Saddiq to hire ex-convicts to work at his office

SUNGAI BULOH (Oct 19): Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman Syed Abdul Rahman would like to make a commitment to the Ministry of Education.

He said that they would have to meet their expectations in the future, to be determined later.

He said that the initiative is part of the 'Yellow Ribbon' campaign implemented by his ministry, which is aimed at changing public perception, especially among youth, and thus giving them a second chance in life.

"I will discuss this matter in the future with the Prisons Department and related ministries so that they may be stationed in my office and I will personally monitor them.

"We need to walk the talk. If I do not know anything about this, then how can I expect the private sector and the community to accept convicts, "he told reporters after launching the program at the Sungai Buloh Prison here today.

The program, implemented in collaboration with the Prisons Department, the Home Ministry and non-governmental organizations, was designed to create awareness among the community.

Syed Saddiq said that if the convicts were able to perform well in his office, it would prove that the community could also accept and support them.

Earlier in his speech, which was also attended by the Sungai Buloh Inborn juvenile prison, Syed Saddiq said he would hold talks with the following parties to the government, completed serving time.

He said it was unfounded when they were committed to being marginalized after being released from prison while they had a long future ahead and needed help to avoid repeating the mistakes.
