LONDON: The former guardian of Middlesex and England's John Murray died at the age of 83, the county club said on Wednesday.
Murray was sick at Lord's shortly after Middlesex's victory over Warwickshire in the county championship on Tuesday.
He played 21 tests for England and was widely regarded as one of the best Wicketkeeper-batsman produced by the country.
"He is undoubtedly the best goalkeeper in the history of the club and will be one of the first names of all teams to choose a Middlesex XI," said John Emburey, Middlesex president. He stated in a statement
"He was a Middlesex end to end and he continued to serve the club beautifully after his retirement as a committee man, a confidant and, above all, a supporter. his last day was devoted to Middlesex's victory in the Lord.
Murray played more than 650 times for Middlesex, scoring 17,519 points over a career of 24 years.
