ALOR SETAR: Pakatan Harapan's promise of a minimum wage of 1,500 RM is part of the coalition's five-year plan, according to Mahfuz Omar of Amanah.

Mahfuz says that people need to be aware that the minimum wage for private sector workers was not among the 100-day promises of the PH manifesto.

"The promise is for five years, before the end of the government's term, we will think of a way to implement it, but currently we started with the minimum wage that will be revised every two years," he said.

Mahfuz, who is vice minister of human resources, said that a study was underway and would be submitted to Cabinet. "But the government is committed to fulfilling the promise," he told Kampung Padang Lalang here today.

Mahfuz stated that all employers were obliged to make contributions to the OSCE for contract and part-time workers in the public sector.

He said that many of these workers were denied Socso contributions. "Maybe they do not know their rights or are they afraid to inform Socso because they fear that action will be taken against them by the employer."

New minimum wage possible in August, says Kulasegaran
