Often, consumers question whether the goods and services tax mentioned in the bills and collected by hotels or stores really goes to the state's board. This is because some business ventures are exempt from paying the GST.

Keeping this in mind, the Central Office of Indirect Taxation and Customs set up a mobile application that would answer this question in a matter of seconds. And based on the answer, the consumer can choose to pay or refuse to pay GST

GST Commissioner, Madurai, R. Saravanakumar, said that the application that works on Android phones could be downloaded on Playstore. "It will be very convenient for consumers and depending on what the application says, consumers can choose or refuse to pay the GST," he added.

"Each registered dealer has a GST or GSTIN identification number, and the application would verify if the person collecting the tax is eligible to collect the tax or not," he said. said during a discussion on the GST on Thursday.

Stating that it was mandatory for every registered dealer to mention his GSTIN on the bills, he said that the consumer can enter the GSTIN number in the # 39, application and get details about the dealer.

"If he did not register, then the consumer may refuse to pay the GST. The GST thus collected will not be paid to the government, "he added.

If such fraud is found, the consumer can take a photo of the fake GSTIN mentioned in the bill and send it by the post at gstverify
