Boxer Muhammad Waseem seeks to become the first Pakistani to win the International Boxing Federation's International Flyweight title when he faces his last opponent later in the month.
The former WBC silver flyweight world champion is ready to face Moruti Mthalane of South Africa for the IBF Flies Flies title vacant on July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The contest will be presented as part of the undercard of the world welterweight title between Manny Pacquiao and Lucas Matthysse.
Waseem, who is the only WBC winner in Pakistan, was unbeaten in eight starts. His opponent Mthalane, meanwhile, won 35 of his 37 career fights.
In a video message posted earlier, Waseem shared his eagerness for the challenge and asked his fans to pray for his success. The born boxer Quetta became the first Pakistani to win the WBA World Money Belt by defeating Jether Oliva of the Philippines on July 17, 2016. He was then crowned the highest ranked boxer according to the rankings released by WBC for the month of June 2017.
Waseem is the first boxer of Pakistan to be ranked number one in the flyweight category.-AFP
