Given the amount of column inches devoted to the Football Association’s decision to allow Wayne Rooney to return to the England fold for one last time, it seems amazing that there has been no confirmation of when England’s record goalscorer will be introduced to the fray at Wembley.
If I were a betting man, oh wait I am, I’d wager that Rooney might come on for longer than people expect, with an expected introduction around 60 minutes likely to please supporters and the player himself.
With Gareth Southgate picking far from his strongest eleven against USA, there will not be too many complaints from the stands when superstar Rooney replaces one of the lesser lights of the squad.
It must also be remembered that, while the standard of football in MLS is far below that of the Premier League, Rooney has had a stellar season since joining DC United in July, inspiring his side to the playoffs from an unlikely position.
As is to be expected on a night such as this, there are a host of prices surrounding Rooney’s performance, with some making more appeal than others.
