Why should you upgrade to Skype 8.0?

Version 8.0 will soon be deployed on iPad and many of these features will also be available.

Features to Watch for

Some of the other features of version 8.0, such as read receipts, private conversation, and call recoding, will be deployed later. Reading receipts is similar to the green check mark function in WhatsApp and highlights messages that have been read by the recipient or other members of the group. Private Conversation is an attempt to keep any communication hidden from interception by an ISP, hacker or government agency. Every call and message on Skype will be protected by end-to-end encryption. WhatsApp also encrypts all communications while Facebook Messenger offers optional encryption through the Secret Conversations feature.

Most messaging and call platforms have no default built-in call recording. Skype will be the first platform capable of recording a conversation and saving it in the cloud.

How to upgrade

The update to version 8.0 does not remove any existing chats or contacts. All communications from the last year will be restored as is, while old data will be saved on the PC in a local file. Users can export this data to their personal cloud if they wish. The update to version 8.0 is free and accessible to all in Help-> Check for updates in the Skype application.
