MALEAH DAVIS: Police revealed that blood was found in the suspect's apartment

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Derby Vence, the man who, according to authorities, was the last person to have gone missing Maleah Davis, 4 years old, was put on notice Saturday after his arrest for falsification of evidence in the disappearance.

A judge fixed the bail of $ 1 million on the account "falsification of evidence, namely a corpse", according to the records of the prison. Law enforcement officials have not yet confirmed whether the girl is dead, but investigators do not think Maleah is still alive.

The judge examined the evidence in court Saturday night.

Police said they observed drops of blood in the hallway leading to the bathroom of Vence's apartment and on various surfaces of the bathroom.

The officials then claimed to have used a chemical agent that had been sprayed and had reacted to the blood in the hallway and the bathroom of the apartment. They say the chemical reacted to the presence of blood that could not be seen through the eyes.

According to the police, canine officers trained to sniff the smell of a corpse would have been brought into the suspect's vehicle and other vehicles in the parking lot. Both dogs reacted to the suspect's trunk, indicating that they had detected a human decomposition in the vehicle.

A police source also told Eyewitness News that Maleah was last seen alive on video surveillance in her family's apartment on April 30, the same day her mother left the city for a funeral. The cameras captured Vence bringing her back to the family apartment that same morning.

After the morning, investigators say that he has never been seen with her.

On May 3, cameras captured Vence leaving the apartment with his one year old son, a laundry basket and a black trash bag inside.

On Saturday, Houston police added that the laundry basket had been found as well as a gasoline canister in the trunk of the vehicle that Vence allegedly stole. The vehicle was found in the Missouri City area on Thursday.

Police also revealed that the same vehicle had been seen on a surveillance video on May 5 at the Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land, where someone had filed Vence. It is there that Vence first claimed that he had been attacked and that Maleah had perhaps been kidnapped.

The Texas EquuSearch volunteers have been looking for Maleah since the story of his abduction told to the police by Vence.

Vence reported that on the night of May 3, he was traveling to the Bush Intercontinental Airport with Maleah and his one – year – old son to retrieve his mother, Brittany Bowens.

He said he was stopped near Greens Road and Highway 59 to check his tires because he had heard a thud.

While Vence was checking his vehicle, he stated that three Hispanic men riding a 2010 blue-cab pickup truck were mounted.

During a press conference, police said Vence had told them that he had been ambushed by both men. One of them was beating him on the head. He lost consciousness.

Vence then learned that he had woken up along Highway 6, near First Colony Mall, around 6 pm. May 4th. His son was with him, but Maleah was not there.

Police said Vence went to the Houston Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land around 11 pm seek treatment for his injuries with his son.

Vence said he was last seen in the 16500 islet of the Southwest Freeway on May 4th.

Meanwhile, Bowens brought another member of his family to the airport while Vence and the children had not arrived.

She told ABC13 that a police report had been filed Saturday morning without hearing Vence.

On Monday, Texas EquuSearch teams began looking for Maleah in the vicinity of Greens Road and Highway 59, where Vence said he and his family had been contacted for the first time.

The Houston Police Department asked for immediate assistance from the group, which was conducting foot and mountain bike searches.

"I'm strangled right now thinking about her," Miller told ABC13. "I've already been involved in these cases before.If that does not affect your heart and if you do not become emotional, you're just not human."

On Monday night, ABC13 learned that the child had recently been sent home after the CPS abducted her last August.

According to SPC officials, the girl and her two siblings – boys aged 5 and a year – were fired, with the agency investigating allegations of physical violence related to her head injury. .

In an exclusive interview with ABC13 Eyewitness News, Bowens said it was determined that a fall was the cause of the girl's injuries.

Bowens told ABC13 on Monday that she was terrified for her daughter.

"My mind is so broken, I feel so lost, I can not concentrate, I can not concentrate, it's so overwhelming for me, it does not seem real," said Bowens in tears.

Then Bowens raised a bombing charge against Vence, accusing him of mistreating the girl.
