CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (WBTV) – Police charged a man with accessory related to the shooting death of a 3-year-old boy when more than 150 shots were fired at the sleeping toddler’s home in Charlotte on September 8.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested Qua’tonio Stephens, 21. He was charged with aiding and abetting the murder in connection with the shooting of Asiah Figueroa.
Police conducted a roadside check on a vehicle driven by Stephens on September 8. They say the vehicle did not stop and a chase ensued. He was arrested without incident on I-85 near Glenwood Drive.
He faces a series of felony charges including flight to escape, discharging property occupied with a weapon (three counts) and assault with a lethal weapon with intent to kill (seven counts). charge) in connection with an incident on September 7 off Joe Morrison Lane.
Susie Whitley, the child’s great-grandmother, said 3-year-old Asiah Figueroa was the victim of Tuesday night’s fatal shooting on Richard Rozzelle Drive.
Asiah’s 4-year-old sister was grazed by the shooting and expected her to survive.

“How can you wake up this morning knowing that your actions last night claimed the life of a 3 year old, who will never have the opportunity to grow up and play, like you did?” CMPD chief Johnny Jennings said, speaking directly to suspects the day after the shooting.

Detectives believe this was one incident among a series of shootings linked to two homicides and that they were linked to students at High Schools in Hopewell, North Mecklenburg and Chambers.

According to officers, several vehicles targeted the house.
