Man arrested after shooting Everglades National Park rangers

A 33-year-old suspect was arrested Sunday evening after shooting rangers at Everglades National Park.

According to a tweet from the park’s official Twitter account, the suspect started shooting at the park rangers. No injuries were reported.

The park’s main road, SR 9336, was immediately closed for public safety reasons. The city of Flamingo has been advised to take shelter in place.

At around 9:07 p.m., officials said the suspect had been located and taken into custody and more details of the incident would be released soon.

In addition, officials urged the public to continue to avoid the area until further notice.
