Man arrested following fatal shooting of 13-month-old in Auburn

AUBURN, Alabama (WSFA) – Auburn police arrested a man after a 13-month-old girl was shot and killed on Saturday.

Auburn Police said officers responded to the 1300 block of Shug Jordan Parkway around 3:45 p.m. Saturday. They determined that the child had been shot in the upper torso.

The child was taken to East Alabama Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries, according to police and the county coroner.

Police said others present during the incident were still at the scene and have been identified.

Michael A. Thomas, 33, was arrested on an arrest warrant accusing him of manslaughter. Thomas was also charged with possession of first degree marijuana, three counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bail at the Lee County Jail was set at $ 33,500, police said.

No other information about the shooting was released.
