SAINT ANTHONY –A man could be charged after San Antonio police say he was involved in a road rage incident that ended in an accident on the West Side.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon on an entrance ramp to Highway 1604.

Police said they were initially responding to an ongoing fire call along 1604 when they received a call for a major accident in the same area.

Officers said a 38-year-old man was driving a white Durango in the left lane of West Loop 1604 access road and a 28-year-old woman was driving a gray Kia in the right lane.

The Kia wanted to take the left lane toward the 1604 entrance ramp and Potranco, but the Durango wouldn’t let it pass, police said. The Kia was able to accelerate and pass the Durango, gaining the entrance to the freeway.

SAPD said the Durango stopped next to the woman on the freeway and pointed a handgun at her. The woman then heard a pop, which scared her and her car swerved into the Durango.

The Durango driver lost control and struck a crash barrier near the 1604 exit ramp and Military Drive West, officers said.

Police said the two drivers were taken to an area hospital and will be questioned later.

SAPD said it found a gun in the Durango but could not confirm whether or not it was used. Police are still looking for a bullet and a point of entry into the Kia.

Officers said the man had not been formally charged but could be assaulted with a deadly weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.
