Man found killed in Birmingham’s Linn Park

A homicide investigation is underway in Linn Park in Birmingham.

City workers cleaning the park in front of City Hall around 8 a.m. found a callous man on the ground near the south side of the park. The location was close to the 700 block of 20th Street North.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene and declared the victim dead. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office also responded, and Fitzgerald said the evidence suggested the man was killed. The cause of death is pending autopsy.

Several passengers who remain in and near the park were visibly upset. “This man didn’t hurt anyone,” said one woman.

There are no suspects in custody and no positive identification on the victim. “If someone was in the park or is known to frequent that area and can hear something, we need them to call us,” Fitzgerald said.

The murder is Birmingham’s second murder in 2021. The first happened around 9 p.m. Friday in Inglenook when a man was found dead next to a house on North 40th Avenue.
