A man died after attempting to flip on a balcony during a rock concert in New York on Friday night, law enforcement sources told the New York Daily News.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. during a Dead & Company concert at Citi Field in Queens. A police source told the newspaper that the unidentified man, “tried to turn around, fell and landed on the balcony below,” adding that the floor was concrete.
“We saw someone fall off that ledge,” Sean Egan, a witness at the concert, told the New York Post. “We see something fall and we heard it hit the ground.”
A driver at the scene told The Post he saw the concert attendee “hit the ground headfirst”. Depending on the outlet, the man fell about 30 to 50 feet.
The man’s injuries were “consistent with falling from a high position,” a spokesperson for the New York Police Department told Insider.
“The man was transported in critical condition to New York-Presbyterian Hospital – Queens, where he was later pronounced dead,” the spokesperson said.
Police told NBC New York that the man appeared to be under the influence and did not believe the incident was a suicide attempt.
An investigation is underway and police told Insider the identity of the 46-year-old was “awaiting notification to the family.”
