JERSEY CITY – A Jersey City man has been accused of murdering a 45-year-old woman, whose body was found in a lake a week ago.
Jorge Rios, 33, has been charged with murder, aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping in Carolina Cano's death, according to Hudson County District Attorney Esther Suarez. He was detained at the Hudson County Detention Center.
Suarez said that the office of the Regional Medical Examiner had determined that the cause of death was homicidal violence, including strangulation and immersion in water, as well as the type of death as homicide. Suarez did not reveal any motive.
The body of Cano was discovered around 9:30. in a Lincoln Park lake on the west side of the city last Sunday.
Local residents gathered at the park for a vigil on Friday, March 29, walking around the lake in honor of Cano, reported by ABC7-NY.
Roommate of cano told NBC New York Cano left his apartment, located one block from the park, to run around 5.30am. The roommate stated that Cano was working as a nanny.
