Man seen wearing ‘Camp Auschwitz’ shirt during riot at Capitol Hill arrested in Virginia

Man seen wearing “Camp Auschwitz” sweatshirt in the United States Capitol riots last week was arrested in Newport News, Va., a senior law enforcement official confirms to CBS News.

Court records show Robert Keith Packer was arrested by federal authorities in the Eastern District of Virginia on Wednesday on a warrant out of Washington, DC The arrest warrant says he faces federal charges for illegal entry into a restricted area and violent entry and disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds.

The image of the shirt referring to the Nazi concentration camp has been widely condemned on social media. It was one of a series of anti-Semitic symbols and sentiments seen during the Capitol riots that experts see as part of a disturbing national trend, the Associated Press reports.

Packer is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Prison in Suffolk, according to CBS station WTKR. He is expected to appear in court virtually Wednesday afternoon before a federal magistrate, according to court records.

Those previously charged face a variety of charges, including illegal entry, disorderly conduct, theft, assault and weapons violations. A team of high-level federal prosecutors is investigating more serious charges, including sedition and conspiracy related to the “most heinous” acts on Capitol Hill, Acting District of Columbia Attorney Michael Sherwin said Tuesday.
