Man Sentenced for Threatening Bexar County Prosecutor

SAINT ANTHONY – A man accused of threatening Bexar Country District Attorney Joe Gonzales in response to a KSAT report was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to the charges, court records show.

Martin Patino, 25, was sentenced to two years probation and must pay court costs totaling $ 5,500, according to court records. He was initially arrested in June 2020 on suspicion of making a terrorist threat to an official, but prosecutors ended up accusing him of retaliation, according to records.

Patino’s arrest follows a response to a tweet from KSAT Defenders reporter Dillon Collier, which indicated that Gonzales had no plans to reopen investigations into the high-profile fatal shootings by San Antonio police officers.

Patino responded to Collier’s tweet by writing “F *** voting, let’s kill him,” according to an arrest affidavit. He also tweeted: “Let’s get her ass off this desk and that will put someone else in,” police said.

The affidavit indicates that Gonzales was concerned that Patino, whose Twitter account is Tshirttimeguy, was following up on these threats.

The comments came as Gonzales said he had no plans to reopen the cases of Marquise Jones, Charles Roundtree and Antronie Scott – all of whom were killed by SAPD agents in previous years.

Their cases resurfaced as residents of San Antonio and around the world protested racial injustice and police brutality following the death of George Floyd.

Records showed that the case was continued by a special prosecutor, with the district prosecutor’s office recusing itself from the case due to the threat.
