ST. JAMES –

Suffolk police said a man was facing charges for firing a drone out of the sky with a shotgun Saturday in St. James.

They say members of Missing Angels-Long Island, a group looking for missing animals, were using a Mavic 2 Zoom drone to search for a stray dog. The drone became insensitive shortly before 5 pm

The group used the drone's GPS to determine that it was above a house located on Rutherford Street in St. James.

Police said an investigation had determined that a resident of the house, Gerard Chasteen, aged 26, had fired three shots in the air since his construction site, taking away the drone.

Suffolk police said several hunting rifles were confiscated at home.

Chasteen is charged with criminal mischief and prohibited use of a weapon. He received a ticket of appearance.
