A man who brawled with a University of Oklahoma football player earlier this month has spoken out following the incident which has gone viral on social media.
Walker Brown, an MMA-trained man, was caught on camera in a two-on-two altercation with Sooners wide receiver Spencer Jones, which injured both men.
Police are currently investigating the incident, which took place inside a men’s room at a bar near the OU campus. Norman Police spokeswoman Sarah Jensen recently told Sports Illustrated that the department called the incident “aggravated assault and battery” with all parties identified. No arrests have yet been made.
On a GoFundMe page launched on his behalf on Tuesday, Brown revealed that he was injured in the altercation and therefore would need to take time off work. Brown has repeatedly stated that he is defending himself and that the video did not capture the entire altercation.
“I feel uncomfortable doing this because I want to work and pay my own bills, but I realize that it can be difficult for a little while,” Brown wrote. “I will say YES, something happened before the video started because my nose isn’t bleeding for no reason.”
“The Original Assault and the Battery” not on the video?
Brown’s attorney Steve Sice expanded on Brown’s statement and supported his client’s claim that the altercation had started before the video began.
“What is not shown are the assaults and bodily injuries sustained by Mr Brown at the hands of Mr Jones and his friend shortly before the footage captured,” Sice wrote. “As you can see, my client’s nose and clothes were bloody before the video started. Mr. Brown was legally entitled to defend himself in this case. As a result, Mr. Brown sustained several injuries, including a torn bicep that will require surgery. We will not make any further comments until the investigation is concluded by the authorities. “
As of Thursday afternoon, more than $ 46,000 of the goal of $ 50,000 was raised on Walker Brown’s GoFundMe page.
What the viral video shows
Meanwhile, Jones suffers from his own injuries. He underwent four-hour surgery to repair a broken left orbital cavity, according to The Athletic.
Jones’ attorney, Woodrow Glass, offered a different take on the situation. Glass told the New York Daily News that his client was trying to defuse the situation and didn’t blow Jones’s nose up.
The video, which surfaced on Monday, begins with Brown’s nosebleed. Brown and Jones exchange words. A man behind Jones, presumably a friend or associate of Jones, comes forward and pushes Brown. Wiping his nose, Brown takes a quick glance at a man standing next to him, who was later identified as his brother, Braden Brown. He then ends up and hits Jones in the face. From there, a melee between the four men breaks out.
Before long, Brown eliminates Jones. Meanwhile, clients in the bathroom circle around and over the bodies on the floor. Brown takes Jones’ back and lands a few punches. Then his brother, Braden, slams Jones’s friend against the wall and begins to lash out with punches. The video ends with the four men on the ground.
MMA background of the brothers
Shortly after the video went viral, Braden Brown, who was unidentified at the time, took to Twitter and revealed that he and Walker had experience in mixed martial arts and “Cage fighting”.
Just to get rid of the misconceptions I’m the guy in the hat and he’s my brother. We ARE NOT wrestlers at any college, we have wrestled since we were in diapers and in MMA / Cage Fighting since we were 12 years old. They unfortunately gave us no options. We have shown restraint.

The Brown brothers’ father, Tommy Brown, told MMA Fighting on Wednesday that his sons train at Coliseum Wrestling and MMA – a gym he owns. Neither Walker, Braden, nor Tommy have any records or profiles listed in a major MMA database.
As for Jones, the University of Oklahoma red-shirted senior has played 11 games in 2020 and received a scholarship, according to USA TODAY Sports.
