Manchester United player ratings

David de Gea: 6 – Did not have to do much. Choose the wrong path on the penalty spot.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 6 – He did his best to move forward but Tierney and Saka caused him a lot of trouble.

Victor Lindelof: 6 – Did well to put a foot on the balls to Aubameyang and Lacazette at crucial moments. Then taken possession as Willian hit the bar.

Harry Maguire: 7 – Dominant defensively and head just wide in the second half. Solid output.

Luke Shaw: 5 – Lost the battle with Bellerin and may lose his place on the team when Alex Telles is available to play.

Fred: 5 – I booked early. Slow to react throughout. Substituted in the second half.

Scott McTominay: 6 – Did his job, as always, but provided no intent to attack.

Paul Pogba: 5 – Was in the thick of the action, popping up in big areas and Arsenal had to commit to stop him from the left. But gave the pivot penalty kick.

Bruno Fernandes: 5 – A frustrated figure because United could not put it on the ball. Barely got a kick and substituted in the last 15 minutes.

Marcus Rashford: 6 – Brilliant ball at Greenwood in the first half, but very isolated and too often withdrawn from his position.

Mason Greenwood: 6 – Smashed a shot on target which forced Leno to save. Cut on the inside and has been delicate on the inside of the box on numerous occasions.

Substitution
Nemanja Matic (62 ′ for Fred): 6 – Almost won a penalty, and gave more bite.
Edinson Cavani (75 ′ for Greenwood): 5 – Attempt to reconcile with Pogba from the left but some loose touches.
Donny van de Beek (75 ′ for Fernandes): 6 – He looked brilliant as his cross was deflected off the post.

Arsenal player ratings

Bernd Leno: 6 – I didn’t have much to do except save Greenwood in the first half and deflect a late shot at the post.

Rob Holding: 6 – Reserved in the first half as he was caught by Rashford, Pogba. Beaten by injury.

Gabriel: 6 – Booked in the first half for stopping a promising United attack. He kept his cool on the ball when under pressure, and good last minute defense although he had to stay more upright.

Kieran Tierney: 7 – Whipped up a few shiny crosses from the left and continued to sink forward from the left back center.

Hector Bellerin: 8 – I made good progress and won the battle with Luke Shaw. Large centers in the box that Aubameyang and Saka could not convert. Won a penalty after being fouled by Paul Pogba.

Thomas Partey: 8 – Cleaned up a lot of damage in midfield and very tidy on the ball. A driving force everywhere and he will be a star at Arsenal. Dominated.

Mohamed Elneny: 7 – Hit a shot in the second half and worked so hard alongside Partey to dominate the midfield.

Bukayo Saka: 6 – Jumped into dangerous areas. He should have come home at half-time because he missed a big chance.

Willian: 7 – Played a nice brace with Aubameyang but his shot cut the crossbar.

Alexandre Lacazette: 6 – Did his best to hurt himself but ate leftovers for most of the match. Subbed off.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 6 – Slipped to the far post in the first half and he should have scored. Curled up in the second when he should have scored. However, he scored the penalty to end his drought.

Substitution
Eddie Nketiah (76 ′ for Lacazette): 5 – Did not get involved in the future because Arsenal fell deeper and deeper.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (86 ′ for Willian): N / A
