Manchester United provide update on Aaron Wan-Bissaka injury

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is “hopeful” that Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof will both recover from injuries to play for Manchester United again this weekend.

The defensive duo were replaced in United’s comfortable 4-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Swedish defender Lindelof suffers from a back injury throughout the current season and was replaced at half-time by Axel Tuanzebe after a slight blow late in the first period.

Wan-Bissaka was also substituted an hour after the start of the game after receiving a slight blow to the ankle and went straight to the Old Trafford tunnel to receive treatment for his injury.

United will be desperate for the duo to return when they travel to face Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, with Solskjaer being optimistic the pair will be back in action by the end of the week.

“I hope they will be ready for the weekend,” Solskjaer told BT Sport. “It’s the ankle for Aaron and the back for Victor. There was no point in taking any more risks.”

United’s victory on Tuesday night means they only need one more point from their two remaining appearances to qualify in Group H, but Solskjaer is eager to do better by securing first place ahead of their final matches against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.

He added: “We need a point, but of course we want to be at the top of the group, but we’re going to play one game at a time.”
