A manhunt is underway for two Arizona inmates who escaped from a prison complex over the weekend, authorities said.
John Charpiot, 49, and David Harmon, 61, were last seen at the Arizona State Correctional Complex in Florence on Saturday, according to the Arizona Corrections Department. The men were reported missing at the time of the prison count at 8:30 p.m.
Charpiot was serving a 35-year sentence for a conviction in 2011 for child molestation and sexual abuse. Harmon was sentenced to 100 years in prison the following year after being convicted of kidnapping and second-degree burglary, the department said.
The two men, considered to be detainees of “average detention”, are considered dangerous because the authorities are trying to find them.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey announced on Sunday that he had authorized, with the US Marshals Service, rewards of $ 35,000 per inmate for information that would lead to their capture.
“Last night 2 inmates escaped from Florence State Prison, AZ,” Ducey tweeted. “The police will work tirelessly to locate and apprehend them.”
The state’s Corrections Department has called the capture of Charpiot and Harmon its top priority and said it has dedicated all available resources, including the Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the follow-up team. dogs, in the search effort.
