The announcement by House of Representatives House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., That she "is not doomed" has provoked a resistance on the left. Pelosi is not trying to protect President Trump. It tries to protect the Democratic Party from its whimsical fringe. It is a challenge more and more difficult.
Pelosi is the first speaker of the House for six decades to return to work a second time. But the Democratic majority she currently chairs is very different from the one she led in 2007. Since the mid-term elections of 2018 which have made her the torch of the president, her party has derailed.
First, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., diverted the Pelosi program by announcing her Green New Deal – an amount of more than $ 90 trillion in government spending to provide each of them with health care, a government employment guarantee, free education, sick leave, vocational training, retirement security and universal basic income to help those who, as she pointed out, are not not willing to work. After this troubled launch, Pelosi tried to reject the plan as "green dream or what he calls" and stated "will be one of many or perhaps many suggestions we will receive ". Pelosi supports a more modest and realistic program to strengthen Obamacare, reduce the cost of prescription drugs, build infrastructure, enforce gun restrictions and other conventional democratic priorities. But many Democrats do not share his lack of enthusiasm for integral socialism. Virtually all Democratic presidential candidates enjoy some support for the Green New Deal, making the socialist recovery of the US economy the focus of the Democratic Party's agenda.
It's already bad enough. But Pelosi also had to deal with the mess created by another leftist insurgent, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Whose antisemitic remarks revealed a virulent strain of anti-Jewish hatred that seizes the left. A resolution condemning Omar's anti-Semitism faced such intense internal opposition that Pelosi had to replace it with a diluted version that condemned not only anti-Semitism but all forms of hatred – including including "anti-Muslim discrimination and bigotry against minorities" – empty it of its meaning.
The next step for Pelosi was to try to stop a suicidal impeachment campaign that gave him strength on his left flank. Anticipating that special advocate Robert Mueller might not find irrefutable evidence that Trump has engaged in a criminal plot with Russia to steal the 2016 election, Pelosi announced that "unless some thing as convincing and overwhelming and bipartisan, I do not think we should go down. " This will not prevent Representative Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Who promised to take office "to dismiss the mother" and announced her intention to present a resolution to initiate impeachment proceedings.
Pelosi knows that such an impeachment effort would divide the Democrats and might not even be passed by the House. A failed dismissal would boost Trump's base, increase its approval ratings, and alienate high-class voters in the suburbs as Democrats moved away from the GOP to win a majority vote in the House in mid-2018. More importantly, she knows that it would distract the Democrats from the agenda that Pelosi wants to pursue. "It's an opportunity cost in terms of time and resources," she told Rolling Stone magazine.
During a private meeting this week, Pelosi reportedly asked Democrats in the House: "Do we want to pull him down or do we want to bring up people?" The Resistance response becomes clear: drag it down!

Pelosi wants to do more than resist; she wants to govern. She wants to pass a law. To do this, Democrats must win back the Senate and the White House by 2020.
But the wing of the Ocasio-Cortez-Omar-Tlaib party seems determined to undermine this strategy by pursuing a platform of socialism, anti-Semitism and dismissal. If they win, not only will Trump not be dismissed, but he will also become president.
