Marcus Stroman, who just hit free agency after a stint with the New York Mets, was not shy about his thoughts on La Russa’s arrest and Chicago’s decision to hire the manager anyway.
In response to Athletic’s Keith Act, Stroman expressed his disapproval of hiring La Russa, calling the decision “baffling” and, when asked how much it would take to get him to play for LaRussa, said “no amount of money” would sign him with the team.
We don’t know if the White Sox had any plans to pursue Stroman in free agency yet, but that’s not a good sign for a team that needs to present a major free agent – perhaps the best pitcher in the market ready to go. sign a multi-year agreement – already closes the door on them.
