This trailer has it all: Tiffany Haddish holds a really big book. A snowman in a protective mask. Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson as Carey’s choristers (how dare she!) on what appears to be a recycled CGI set of The Nutcracker and the Four Kingdoms. A socially distanced gospel choir, each member standing on a platform six feet apart. Billy Eichner as an elf. Santa Snoop. And apparently… the light plating of a plot? Apple TV + describes it this way: “The Special finds the world facing a crisis of holiday cheer, which the North Pole knows only one person can solve: Santa’s great friend, Mariah Carey. Combining musical performances, dynamic dance and revolutionary animation, the undisputed queen of Christmas takes action to create a spectacular holiday that will delight the whole world.
