The Boston Marathon, like any other marathon, is full of beautiful stories of ordinary people running and running for special reasons, causes or people.
One of these runners at Monday's marathon was Micah Herndon, a sailor who ran to pay tribute to three Marines with whom he had served. Three Marines who did not survive an attack in Afghanistan in 2010.
Record-Courier in Ohio has more details of its inspiring story:
"I run in their honor," said Herndon. "They are not here anymore. I am here and I can. I'm lucky to still have all my members. I can still be active. I find fuel in the simple idea that I can run. Some can not.
"If I have a heat cramp while running, if my feet hurt, or if I'm exhausted, I keep saying their names out loud." They lived much worse, so I run for them and their families.
Towards the final stages of the race, his body began to yield if he did not want to give up:
Herndon has crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 3:38 and the strength he has shown will never be forgotten.
