Houston Astros player Jake Marisnick was suspended two games Thursday for his collision with Los Angeles Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy on Sunday.

Lucroy was hospitalized after suffering a concussion and a broken nose in the collision with the marble. Marisnick was summoned for hitting Lucroy.

"After carefully examining the game from all angles, I concluded that Jake's actions justified discipline," said Joe Torre, chief baseball officer for Major League Baseball, announcing the suspension. "Although I do not think Jake intended to hurt Jonathan, the contact he made in attempting to score was in violation of the official rule of 6.01 (i), designed to protect receivers of this type of collision. "

The referees determined that Marisnick was turning away from the baseline and lowered her shoulder to contact Lucroy. Marisnick and Lucroy hit the head of the room; the back of Lucroy's head also hit the inner dirt.

The goals were loaded in the eighth inning with a score of 10 when Marisnick attempted to score on a sacrifice flight by George Springer.

Marisnick was crushed against Lucroy while the catcher was attempting to throw and Lucroy immediately fell on his back. He did not move for a few seconds before struggling to sit down.

The Angels said Lucroy would consult an ear, nose and throat specialist after the All-Star break once his swelling was gone.

Marisnick was also fined an undisclosed amount.

Marisnick then stated that it was "a bad game" and that he hoped Lucroy was fine. He also posted on his Twitter later that he "had taken a split second at full speed" and that it was awful that another player was injured.

If Marisnick does not appeal, her suspension would begin Thursday night when the Astros face the Texas Rangers in Arlington.
