Marjorie Taylor Greene ridiculed by Kate McKinnon in SNL Cold Open

In the open cold of the episode, Kate McKinnon hosts a show – “What Still Works?” – which explores what aspects of American society are still functioning.

“It’s a new year and we have a new president, so some things should work, but is it working?” McKinnon said. “Our first subject is the government and I already have my doubts,” she added.

McKinnon then took out Republican MP Marjorie Taylor Greene, who faces a backlash after past social media posts revealed she loved and engaged with conspiracy theories and calls for violence against Democrats.

Greene, played by Cecily Strong, sits down next to McKinnon and immediately offers him a gun.

“So, Congressman Greene … hard to say those words together. What are some of the theories that you believe in and have promoted?” McKinnon asks.

“How much time do you have?” Strong’s Greene replied. “Okay, first of all, I think the Parkland shooting was a hoax. The teachers were actors and the children were dolls. I believe September 11 was a hoax. Has anyone actually seen it?

Strong’s Greene adds that she told her followers to “physically murder Nancy Pelosi”.

“This is the woman I work with,” she added. “Oh, and this is a new one that just came out … I think the California wildfires were caused by Jewish space lasers.”

McKinnon then asks if Greene really believes these theories and if she really is a representative of the United States. “Do you represent the United States? People can google you and it will say that she is a real member of the United States government?” McKinnon asked.

“It might not be the first thing that presents itself, but yes,” Strong’s Greene replied.

“And when your coworkers found out about all these hateful, psychic things that you said, what did they do?” McKinnon then asks.

“I was promoted to the education committee,” says Strong’s Greene.

McKinnon then thanks Greene for coming. “So the government is not working, and honestly, I regret not having taken this weapon,” she adds.

After finding out that the stock market, social media, and the COVID-19 vaccine rollout aren’t working either, McKinnon brings out Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, played by host John Krasinski.

“Now Tom, it’s your 10th Super Bowl,” McKinnon told him.

“You’re still working. You’re supposed to win soccer games and you keep winning soccer games. You might be the only thing in America that still works… So I guess everyone has to cheer you on, no?”

“Hardly anybody,” replied Brady of Krasinski.

McKinnon said she will support him because the country can always count on him.

“It’s not like you’re some weird Trump guy or whatever, right?” McKinnon adds.

“Thanks for inviting me,” Krasinski’s Brady replied, before immediately getting up and leaving.

McKinnon then turns to the camera and thanks viewers for watching.

“I’ve been Kate McKinnon, like myself, slowly losing my mind with all of you,” she said, before adding the show’s tagline: “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!” “
