Neighbors in Congress are in an ongoing public row Thursday, with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene placing a sign outside her Capitol Hill office proclaiming ‘there are two sexes’, after Representative Marie Newman installed a transgender flag next to his door to protest against the Georgia Republican. opposition to the equality bill.
Greene, who was elected in November, posted a video Wednesday of her hanging up the sign, which reads “There are TWO genders: Male and Female, Trust science.”
It’s right across the hall from the office of Representative Newman, who has a transgender daughter.
Newman (D-Ill.) also posted a video of herself on Twitter, showing her hanging a transgender flag.
“Our neighbor, @RepMTG, tried to block the equality law because she believed that banning discrimination against trans Americans was ‘disgusting, immoral and evil.’ I thought we were going to display our transgender flag so that she can look at it every time she opens her door, ”she said in the post.
The two women in Congress have been shooting each other all week amid the debate over the equality law.
Taylor Greene, who opposes the legislation, responded to a tweet from Newman about his speech in the House supporting the bill.
“Without equality law, millions of Americans like my daughter can be denied housing, education and more simply because they identify as transgender. I am voting to pass the Equality Act for my daughter – the strongest and bravest person I know, ”Newman said.
The representative of Georgia shot Newman at her own post.
“As mothers, we love and support all of our children. But your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters’ bathrooms, locker rooms and sports teams, ”she said.
Earlier, Taylor Greene noted that she had presented a motion to adjourn “to give every member of Congress time to rethink the destruction of #WomensRights and #WomensSports and #ReligiousFreedom before voting for #EqualityAct!”
Taylor Greene, who was stripped of her powers on the committee for voicing the QAnon conspiracy theories, also competed with Democratic Representative Ted Lieu over the equality law.
Lieu of California took note of his adjournment motion in a tweet sent to him.
“Dear Rep @mtgreenee: Congratulations on your first random adjournment motion! Can you feel the power? You get to force all the members to show up on the floor. The downside, of course, is that it’s a waste of the taxpayer’s time and money for us to vote on stupid and absurd motions, ”he said earlier this week.
She fought back.
“I hope that by forcing you to walk to the bedroom to vote (do your job) there may be enough blood in your brain to vote NO to #EqualityAct and NOT destroy #WomensRights and # ReligiousFreedom, ”Taylor Greene said.
“In the real world, people don’t complain like you.
The House is expected to vote on legislation, which would explicitly extend federal civil rights protections to LGBTQ Americans, next Thursday.
