In June, Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus revealed he was diagnosed with cancer, saying he had been undergoing chemotherapy for three months. He didn’t give much more details, but made it clear that he was moving forward with a positive outlook on his future and that he was hopeful about his treatment. Recently, Hoppus offered an update on how he’s doing on a Twitch stream (Going through Hollywood journalist), explaining that her specific diagnosis is “stage IV-A diffuse large B-cell lymphoma,” which means the cancer has entered many parts of her body. Basically his summary is that “cancer is not related to bones, but to blood”, adding that “my blood is trying to kill me”.
Hoppus said he had an appointment coming up to see if the chemotherapy had worked, so there might be a chance he had to go back for “at least three more rounds” and there was a chance that everything works and they would say he would “never have to think about this cancer again” but he might also have to have a bone marrow transplant. Either way, Hoppus is still convinced he will be okay, saying, “We are beating this cancer, it’s only a matter of time.” Overall, it’s a slightly darker outlook than his attitude when he first revealed his diagnosis, but the fact that he’s still trying to have a positive attitude seems like a relatively good sign.
It doesn’t appear that Hoppus has given any further updates, as his most recent tweet was about chemotherapy last week and generally feeling “like hot garbage.” In fact, that’s not true: his most recent tweet was answer to someone who discovers the long lost video “All The Small Things” again with Sponge Bob SquarePants characters, which was created for MTV2 Video mods series in the early 2000s (it was a cross-promotion thing for video game publishers that has largely been lost to history because of the complicated rights involved).
